All Set for the 69th Cappamore Show: Showjumping Arena to Host Riders of All Ages This August

There’s always a buzz around the showjumping arena at the Cappamore Show, and this year’s 69th edition promises to be no different. On Saturday 16th August 2025, this grass arena will once again play host to a full day of competitive, skill-driven, and community-centred action — with riders from across the region and beyond set to take part.

The showjumping section remains one of the most popular spectacles of the entire event. From young children just starting out to experienced pony riders and adult amateurs, the arena brings together a wide mix of talent, ability, and four-legged partners. It’s not just about the fences — it’s the atmosphere, the effort, and the sheer love of the sport that make this ring so special each year.

Backed by Showjumping Ireland, the arena will run under official rules and structures, providing a professionally-run but welcoming environment. There are 13 classes scheduled for the day, covering everything from 50 cm Pony Newcomers right up to 1.00 m Amateur horse rounds — and everything in between. Whether you’re there to cheer on the under 8s in the 60 cm or watch the more competitive riders in the McDonogh League amateur class, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Judging on the day will be handled by Mary Ryan and Mary O’Sullivan, whose experience and fairness ensure each round is given due attention and credit. The magnificent grass arena, designed by Senior National Course Designer Kevin Bartley, will provide a true test for both horse and rider — but one that remains fair, flowing, and confidence-building for those stepping up.

As always, safety is a top priority. With dedicated safety officers on site and the Red Cross present throughout the day, organisers are committed to making sure every rider, pony, horse, and spectator feels supported and secure.

Entries are being taken in advance via sjilive.ie and will also be accepted on the day at the showgrounds. Riders are encouraged to pre-enter where possible to help with scheduling and smooth running.

Prizes on the day include generous support from Glenstal Foods and Orchard Equestrian, among others — a great incentive, but also a show of community backing that keeps this grassroots event thriving year after year.
