Sparrow Equestrian, led by the experienced and passionate coach Emma, is excited to announce a new clinic designed for equestrians of all levels. This promotional piece introduces the clinic, its goals, and the unique opportunities it offers to riders.
Meet Emma: The Driving Force Behind Sparrow Equestrian
Emma has dedicated nearly 20 years to the equestrian industry, gaining experience across various sectors and roles. From competing to producing horses, she has seen it all. A fully qualified coach with both BHS and HSI credentials, Emma’s journey with Sparrow Equestrian began four years ago.
“I decided to quit my steady job in HR to return to coaching and riding full time after keeping it part-time for a few years. I noticed gaps in horse owners’ and riders’ education, with an over-reliance on quick fixes,” Emma explains. This realisation inspired her to create Sparrow Equestrian, aiming to provide comprehensive, long-term solutions for riders.
The Inspiration Behind the Clinic
Emma is passionate about sharing her experiences and promoting long-term solutions over quick fixes. “I’ve always believed that to achieve a goal, you must ride for that goal and make changes to your riding and mindset,” she says. The clinic aims to introduce riders to the importance of flatwork for jumping, bringing them back to basics where tack and riding were much more straightforward.
Why Emerald Equestrian Centre?
The choice of Emerald Equestrian Centre as the venue was an easy one for Emma. “Emerald is a superb venue, and it is central for a lot of riders. I really enjoy training there myself,” she shares. The location offers a convenient and high-quality environment for the clinic.
Week 1: Back to Basics
The first week, titled “Back to Basics,” focuses on stripping things back and starting afresh. Participants will revisit their position and mental attitude towards riding, addressing confidence issues and problem areas. Emphasis will be placed on rhythm and balance, the foundation for all riding skills.
Week 2: Flatwork Fundamentals
In the second week, “Flatwork Fundamentals,” riders will delve into the training scale and how it applies to riding. Simple exercises will help riders understand the importance of maintaining the chain of training elements. Emma emphasises, “I get a lot of riders blaming the horse when things go wrong, but it’s often a break in the chain. This week is about understanding the ‘why’ behind it.”
Week 3: Jumping for the Clear Round
Week 3, “Jumping for the Clear Round,” promises to share some of Emma’s best-kept secrets. This session will focus on why clear rounds don’t happen, offering corrections for individual riders on approach, takeoff, midair, landing, and get away.
Tailoring Coaching for All Skill Levels
Emma’s approach to coaching is inclusive and personalised. “I like to get a snapshot of each horse and rider before a clinic. I give the client a task, let them do it, support if needed, and get their thoughts working on a plan to improve it,” she explains. This method ensures that riders of all skill levels can benefit from her clinics.
What Makes This Clinic Unique?
What sets this clinic apart is its holistic approach. “We are looking at three different angles, not just show jumping or dressage, but how they work hand in hand,” says Emma. She also considers factors beyond just riding, providing a comprehensive coaching experience.
Flexible Participation Options
While attending all three weeks is recommended for maximum benefit, riders can choose to attend individual sessions based on their needs. “Some riders prefer to target specific areas they need to work on, so they choose one or two weeks,” Emma notes.
Sparrow Equestrian’s new clinic promises a thorough, engaging, and practical approach to equestrian training. Whether you’re looking to improve your basics, flatwork, or jumping skills, Emma’s expertise and holistic coaching style will guide you towards your riding goals.
