Continuous isn’t initially entered in the Arc

After a brilliant victory in the St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday, Aidan O’Brien is taking his time to decide whether Continuous will participate in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Continuous, the son of Heart’s Cry, faced early-season setbacks, but he has truly hit his stride in the latter part of the campaign. He impressed everyone with his performance in the Great Voltigeur at York, and he secured O’Brien’s seventh success in the season’s final Classic at Town Moor.

Interestingly, Continuous isn’t initially entered in the Arc, but O’Brien did mention the possibility of supplementing the three-year-old into the race, which would come with a cost of €120,000. While Continuous appears to have handled his recent races well, O’Brien is in no hurry to make a decision. The supplementary stage for the Arc takes place a week from Wednesday, just four days before the prestigious middle-distance contest in Europe.

“We were delighted with him, and he seems to be fine,” O’Brien commented. “But we don’t make any plans until a week or so later.”

Continuous is also listed for the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on October 21. When questioned about potential alternatives to the Arc, O’Brien replied, “He has a lot of alternatives really, anywhere. We’ll just see how he is first, I suppose.”

However, it’s worth noting that Irish Oaks heroine Savethelastdance won’t be among O’Brien’s contenders for the Arc. She last finished third in the Yorkshire Oaks behind stablemate Warm Heart. O’Brien confirmed that the Galileo filly won’t be making the trip to Paris and won’t compete again this season. As for the possibility of her returning as a four-year-old in 2024, O’Brien mentioned, “We always talk about those things at the end of the year, really, so we haven’t discussed it yet.”
