Reviewing the last week on the international showjumping circuit, the show that comes to mind happens to be the Longines Global Champions Tour of Madrid- taking place from the 12th-14th of May.
This show was full of Irish representatives with the likes of Shane Breen and Michael Pender, both of whom have won the prestigious Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby, and also represented their country on nation cup teams.
Dominating the 1* classes was Marta Hughes Bravo with Miss Belgium III and HHS Figero. Proving that age is in fact just a number, Marta proved her mettle by competing against riders with double her experience and winning the TROFEO PORSCHE (1.40 m) on the final day of the show with HHS Figero. Marta also won the TROFEO MAHOU (1.25 m) with Miss Belgium III alongside picking up many other clear rounds and placings with both horses.
Keeping with the family, Molly Hughes Bravo picking up a win in the TROFEO GILMAR (1.25 m) with HHS Fortune. Also representing the Irish was Isabel O’Brien with a second place in the TROFEO MARCA (1.25 m) with Javas Gucci.
The aftermath of LGCT Madrid sees Micheal Pender move up to sixth ranked, along with Denis Lynch moving up 18 riders to rank 32.
