Vintage Style. Global Unity. A Cause That Matters.
On Sunday 18th May 2025, one of the most stylish motorcycle charity events in the world returns to the ivy-wrapped grounds of Barberstown Castle, Co. Kildare. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) is gearing up for its third edition in Kildare, and this year promises to be its most ambitious yet—more bikes, more riders, more impact.
From polished café racers to bespoke bobbers, and from silk ties to tailored tweeds, DGR is not just a spectacle—it’s a statement. A global synchronised ride with a powerful mission: to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s mental health and prostate cancer research, in partnership with Movember.
“It’s more than just a ride. It’s a movement,” says organiser Austin O’Callaghan, the man driving the DGR Kildare chapter.
“On May 18th, tens of thousands of riders across the world will ride together in style—for the men we’ve lost, the ones we’re fighting for, and the conversations that still need to be had.”
🏍️ What Makes DGR Kildare Unique?
Held against the majestic backdrop of Barberstown Castle, the Kildare ride blends old-world charm with a modern purpose. With a route that winds through Straffan, Clane, Naas and the Kildare countryside, it brings classic motorcycling culture to Ireland’s heartlands.
- Goal for 2025: Over 250 registered riders
- Expected global turnout: More than 100,000 riders across 1,000+ cities in over 120 countries
- Open to all genders riding classic, vintage, or retro-styled motorcycles (style guide here: DGR Style Guide)
The spirit of the event is unmistakable: dapper style, community connection, and saving lives through open dialogue.
🎉 What’s Happening This Year
This year’s event is more than just a ride—it’s a full weekend experience.
🚨 Motorbike & Scooter Showcase – Saturday 17th May
In association with Cool & Trendy Customs, the castle will host a spectacular display of motorcycles and scooters, showcasing rare and custom-built machines. From mechanical artistry to heritage engineering, it’s an open-invite celebration of two-wheeled beauty and creativity. Riders, families, and visitors are welcome.
📞 The Movember “Talk Mo” Phone Booth
Making a return is the Movember Phone Booth, a private vintage-inspired space where attendees can share stories, thoughts, or messages about men’s health. It’s raw, real, and rooted in one goal: break the silence and spark conversation.
“Be A Man Of More Words” is the message—and this installation brings it to life.
🎁 Major Prize Draw for Fundraisers & Supporters
To inspire even greater support, this year’s event comes with a huge incentive:
🎁 Win a specially commissioned Mash TT 400 Café Racer, complete with paddock stands and a matching helmet.
- Every registered DGR Kildare rider is automatically entered
- Anyone who donates €20 or more to a registered Kildare rider is also entered
- Additional tickets are available: €10 for one, €20 for three
- Live draw on Monday 2nd June 2025
This one-of-a-kind motorcycle is more than a prize—it’s a reward for standing up for men’s health.
🧍 Why It Matters
Every year, over 1.4 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Every minute, a man dies by suicide. These are not just statistics—they’re fathers, brothers, friends.
Through DGR, the motorcycling community is taking action. Since its inception in 2012, the global ride has raised over $50 million USD, with funding supporting real-world projects in mental health, suicide prevention, and prostate cancer research.
“DGR creates a space where talking about mental health isn’t awkward—it’s encouraged. And doing it dressed like Don Draper on a classic bike? That’s what makes it powerful.” — Previous Kildare participant
