*Part Two of Pulling Back the Curtain on the Eventing Issue
What we’re navigating now is a minefield—power players, misinformation, weaponised language, and optics—all wrapped in the fragile fabric of Irish eventing.
And at the centre of it all sits the insurance debate.
Or at least—what was the insurance debate.
The Insurance Excuse No Longer Stands
There’s a lot of confusion still being spread about insurance. So let’s be direct.
According to verified information shared with the Grassroots Gazette:
- Once indemnity clauses were added to Eventing Ireland’s policy, insurance cover was confirmed.
- There is a health and safety specialist advising Eventing Ireland on its documentation.
- The insurer is fully aware of this and is satisfied with how the process is being managed.
- A few anomalies have been identified and are being addressed.
- The final documents will be reviewed and approved by the Eventing Ireland board in the coming two weeks.
The insurer’s position is clear:
“Howden Insurance Brokers confirmed in writing that Eventing Ireland’s liability policy would not be invalidated whilst updates are being reviewed and implemented with regards to health and safety documentation.”
Put simply:
This isn’t about insurance anymore.
That excuse doesn’t stand.
Events are covered. Events can run.
There Are Agendas at Play—Let’s Not Pretend Otherwise
This story didn’t escalate on its own. It has been driven forward by a small cohort of individuals, quietly exerting pressure, shaping narrative, and pushing others into alignment.
We know who’s involved. We’re not releasing those names.
Because we won’t be baited.
Let’s be honest—one side wants names to expose the disruption.
The other side may want names released to trigger legal retaliation.
We’re not playing that game.
We won’t be used.
We won’t be silenced.
This isn’t reaction. This is reality.
It’s becoming harder to deny that what we’re witnessing is a strategic attempt to reshape the future of Eventing Ireland.
This isn’t about fixing forms or requesting clarity—it’s about dismantling one system and building another, with different interests in mind.
Collapse the board. Reset the structure. Shift influence.
And if it all happens under the guise of professionalism or safety, even better.
To the Event Organisers Watching This Unfold
There are outstanding event organisers across Ireland doing everything they can to keep this sport alive. And let’s be clear: many of them are not part of the disruption.
They are focused on running clean events, supporting their communities, and holding the line under pressure.
We know some have been put in fragile, impossible situations.
We know that for many, these events are not just a passion—they are a livelihood.
They are the link between local economies and the wider sport.
And we want you to know—we see you. You’ve told us directly what you’re dealing with.
One organiser put it best:
“Venues and organisers need to have confidence that their governing body has their back when the shit hits the fan.”
And that’s the truth.
Confidence, clarity, and support shouldn’t be in short supply.
You shouldn’t be left hanging in the crossfire of something you didn’t cause.
Respect Doesn’t Work One Way
We’ve heard it repeatedly: “The board needs to be more respectful. More professional.”
But what about the public blame game?
What about the anonymous campaigns?
What about the pressure placed on venues to step back?
Respect doesn’t mean silence.
Respect isn’t one-sided.
You can’t ask for dignity while encouraging the collapse of the board of Eventing Ireland.
We’re Not Taking Sides. We’re Taking Responsibility.
We are not on the side of any boardroom.
We are not here to serve any political or personal interests.
We are on the side of the right information, the truth of what’s happened, adding clarity to the noise and supporting the grassroots riders and eventers who deserve better.
- The riders who haven’t jumped a fence since last season.
- The owners wondering if entries are even worth it anymore.
- The competitors aiming for grading points, qualifications, or simply to ride.
- The organisers doing their best under pressure.
- The volunteers keeping the lights on behind the scenes.
That’s who we represent. And that’s who we answer to.
This Isn’t About Blame—It’s About Clarity
Some say, “This isn’t helping.”
But let’s be honest—
This didn’t start with us.
It started with silence, confusion, and back-channel tactics.
Letting misinformation spread?
That’s what isn’t helping.
Letting a small group manipulate the conversation?
That’s what isn’t helping.
And if we don’t get this right—if this drags on, unresolved and unchecked—riders at every level will be the ones who lose out.
Misinformation. Disinformation. Misrepresentation.
We are not here to let that continue.
Where Is This Headed? And Where Is Horse Sport Ireland?
If this keeps going—if self-interest, manipulation, and selective messaging continue—everyone loses.
Not just the board. Not just a venue. Not just a calendar date.
The whole discipline is at risk.
And where is Horse Sport Ireland in all of this?
Where is the leadership from the governing body responsible for safeguarding the sport nationwide?Right now—silence.
And people are noticing.
