Ireland’s Junior Showjumpers Triumph in Hagen in the Nations Cup – Part 3

In a dazzling display of skill and determination, Team Ireland clinched victory in the Junior Nations Cup at Hagen. This extraordinary achievement is a testament to the relentless dedication and talent of our young riders, who have proven themselves to be the future stars of Irish showjumping. The team, composed of Gary Dooley, Emily Moloney, James Brennan, and Coen Williams, delivered a performance that will be remembered for a long time to come.

The meticulous preparation and mental fortitude required to compete at such a high level are nothing short of inspirational. These young athletes’ ability to remain calm under pressure and deliver flawless performances speaks volumes about their potential and dedication.

A Team Effort

Emily Moloney shared her joy and the support she gets to enable her success, “I am delighted to win in Hagen. I was very happy with how my horse jumped. I don’t really get nervous before competing; I have a great relationship with my horse. I would like to thank my parents, my sister Anna, Denis Flannelly, and James Kernan for this opportunity. Also, a big thanks to my sponsors Mervue, GAIN, and CWD, and everyone behind the scenes who make these days happen. Work hard towards your goals and enjoy the journey!”

James Brennan echoed the sentiment of teamwork and perseverance, “I was delighted to have won the Nations Cup in Hagen. There’s always a small bit of nerves when jumping as part of a team. Thanks to my family for their support and to James Kernan for backing us to compete for Ireland again. Thanks also to Ger O’Neill for his support. My message to other riders is to enjoy competing and always work towards a set goal.”

Gary Dooley provided insight into the pressure and pride of competing at this level, “I am delighted to have won the Junior Nations Cup alongside my teammates. CSF Olympic Jewel is only an 8-year-old but took on the course so effortlessly, producing a double clear round. I wouldn’t say I was nervous, but I felt the pressure to do well for my team. Thanks to James Kernan for his trust, TRM & SJI for the lovely gear, and TRM for keeping my horse in top condition. Finally, thanks to my parents and Paul Duffy for his excellent training. My advice is to work hard and believe in yourself and your horse.”

Coen Williams highlighted the importance of teamwork and consistent effort, “It’s always good to have a win, but to win with your teammates makes it even better. The Nations Cup is a big competition, and you do get nervous because you want to perform well and not let anyone down. Kudos to my trainer Denis Flannelly, Patrick Williams, Jack Barrett, my mum Paula Williams, and Team Manager James Kernan. To the younger generation, I would say it’s important to work hard and stay consistent. Your trophies are won in training and collected in competition.”

The Path to Success

The journey to this incredible victory was not without its challenges we have no doubt. Each rider had to overcome their own set of obstacles on the way like all Equestrians competing at this level. From managing nerves, expectations, all the noise that comes at this level and ensuring their horses were in peak condition to be able to bring home the win. Their success in Hagen is a reflection of the countless hours of training, the unwavering support from family and mentors, and the robust support system provided by sponsors and those close to them.

Looking Ahead

As Team Ireland looks forward to the European Championships in July, their recent triumph serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved with hard work, perseverance, and a strong support network.

The advice from our champions—work hard, stay consistent, believe in yourself, and enjoy the journey—resonates not only with aspiring showjumpers but with anyone striving to achieve their dreams. The future of Irish equestrian sport is bright, and these young riders have set a high bar for those who will follow in their footsteps.

Celebrating Together

Let’s celebrate the remarkable talent and skills of all 3 Irish teams, what an achievement.
