Meet Lorraine Cribbin – The Grassroots Community Series

Back in the Saddle: Lorraine Cribbin’s Journey to Equestrian Resilience

At 27, Lorraine Cribbin has already carved a niche for herself in Mayo’s equestrian community. A veterinary nurse and equine photographer, Lorraine combines her professional acumen with a deep passion for horse riding, particularly through her bond with Ed, her 11-year-old Connemara x Thoroughbred. Together, they are a familiar sight on new trails and at local riding competitions, embodying a spirit of resilience and community engagement.

Navigating Challenges with Determination

Since acquiring Ed five years ago, Lorraine has moved from casual rides to competitive engagements within her local riding club. Last year marked a significant leap in their journey. Not only did Lorraine secure her own horsebox and trailer licence, expanding their competitive reach, but she also faced and overcame personal health challenges that would have sidelined many. “We only got out to a handful of shows last year because of my ankle surgery in September, but we’re making up for lost time,” Lorraine states, reflecting a no-nonsense attitude toward setbacks.

Ambitious Goals for the Current Year

With renewed vigour, Lorraine’s agenda for the year is packed with ambitious goals. “The main plan is to attend as many riding club shows as we can. I’m pushing my limits this year, especially aiming to boost my confidence in jumping,” she explains. Her focus is not just on participation but on excelling at the riding club festival in June and the dressage Ireland final, setting sights on broader horizons in her equestrian career. This year, Lorraine is focused on making a strong comeback, aiming to participate in as many riding club shows as possible. Last year’s focus on dressage has set the stage for new challenges. “My aim this year is to get confidence to jump at shows, and my yard holds one day events so I’m trying to do them once a month,” she explains.

Driven by a Love for the Grassroots Community

Lorraine’s enthusiasm for the Grassroots Community Series is palpable. “It’s right up my street! I’d just love to be part of it,” she says. For her, the series represents more than competition—it’s about community and support. Lorraine is eager to use her experiences to help others in the equestrian community, particularly those new or returning to the sport who are looking for encouragement and advice.

Why Grassroots Matters

Lorraine sees the Grassroots Community Series as a perfect fit for her values and goals. “I want to help others and meet others like me who all have the same interest and love,” she emphasises. Her commitment to the series is about contributing to a supportive environment where riders can share experiences, challenges, and triumphs.

Looking Ahead with Optimism

With the 2023 season well underway, Lorraine’s goals are clear: to smile more, enjoy riding, and leverage every opportunity to grow both personally and within her riding community. “I’m very lucky to finally have my own transport, so I’m going to get back out to weekly riding club lessons which we really enjoyed last year,” she states confidently.

Lorraine Cribbin is not just riding—she’s leading with passion and a proactive approach, setting an example for resilience and community engagement in the local equestrian scene. As she and Ed prepare for their upcoming competitions, her story is a powerful reminder of the impact of perseverance, community, and the love of the sport.

Until Next Time,

Shane
