As the summer draws to a close, the Clonshire Equestrian Centre in Adare is gearing up for one of the most anticipated events of the year — the Clonshire Country Show Day, taking place on Sunday, September 1st. With an array of activities planned, this year’s show promises to be the biggest and most exciting yet, offering something for everyone in the family.
The Clonshire Country Show Day kicks off at 12 pm and runs until 4 pm, packed with events that will keep attendees entertained from start to finish. Among the highlights is the much-loved dog show, which has grown to feature 16 diverse classes. Whether you’re entering your pup in the “Perfect Puppy” category or trying your hand at the “Best Fancy Dressed” contest, the dog show is set to be a crowd-pleaser. And if that’s not enough, there’s also dog agility competitions and the ever-thrilling terrier racing, ensuring that four-legged friends have their time in the spotlight.
For the equestrian enthusiasts, this year marks the introduction of the first-ever equestrian show at the Clonshire Country Show. The Jump Cross event, a thrilling mix of show jumping and cross-country obstacles, is open to riders of various skill levels, with classes ranging from 70 cm to 1 metre. The showing classes, featuring everything from Riding Horses to Connemaras, promise to be a stunning showcase of talent, with local lead rein events already generating significant buzz. The addition of pony club games and the whimsical hobby horse event further broadens the equestrian appeal, ensuring that even the youngest riders have a chance to shine.
Beyond the arena, the show grounds will be bustling with over 30 local trade, craft, and food stalls. Visitors can browse a variety of offerings, from handcrafted goods and children’s books to delicious local fare and artisan coffee. With vendors like Berney’s Saddlery and James Neville of Hunting Attire on site, it’s a perfect opportunity to stock up on essentials for the upcoming hunting season or simply indulge in some retail therapy. Adare GAA will be in attendance selling tickets to win a new car! We will have coffee vans, local grillers and icecreams. The weather forecast is looking positive!
Families will find plenty to keep the little ones entertained. The Family Fun Zone is packed with activities including bouncing castles, giant lawn games like Snakes and Ladders and Jenga, as well as face painting and pony rides. And with free entry for kids, it’s an affordable day out that won’t break the bank. The hobby horse event, new this year, is particularly anticipated and is sure to draw a crowd of eager young competitors.
The Clonshire Equestrian Centre itself is steeped in history, set on 120 acres of picturesque parkland in the heart of Ireland’s Golden Vale. Owned by the County Limerick Hunt Club, the centre is a beautiful backdrop for a day of community fun, with its ancient trees, historic walls, and buildings that have stood the test of time for over 300 years.
As the third year of the Clonshire Country Show approaches, the excitement is palpable. The event has continued to grow each year, becoming a staple in the community and a must-attend for families and equestrian lovers alike. Whether you’re coming for the dogs, the horses, the crafts, or just to enjoy a day in the countryside, the Clonshire Country Show Day offers a memorable experience for all.
